GeoJSON validator
ClientPreflight map GeoJSON before APIs.
Learn more: GeoJSON validator
Check a GeoJSON Feature or FeatureCollection for the core object type, feature list, geometry type, and coordinate structure before sending it to a map or spatial API.
Required input
Paste one complete GeoJSON object. A FeatureCollection needs a features array; a Feature needs geometry and properties members. Coordinates must follow GeoJSON longitude-first ordering.
What the result means
This is a fast structural preflight, not a full RFC 7946 conformance suite or a geographic validity check. It does not confirm polygon topology, coordinate reference systems, or whether coordinates fall on land.
Local processing
The page parses and transforms the pasted document in your browser. Use a smaller representative sample first when the source is large.
What this page does
Check a GeoJSON Feature or FeatureCollection for the core object type, feature list, geometry type, and coordinate structure before sending it to a map or spatial API.
Input and workflow
Paste one complete GeoJSON object. A FeatureCollection needs a features array; a Feature needs geometry and properties members. Coordinates must follow GeoJSON longitude-first ordering. Start with Load example or prefill the primary input with ?q= / ?qb=.
Scope and limits
This is a fast structural preflight, not a full RFC 7946 conformance suite or a geographic validity check. It does not confirm polygon topology, coordinate reference systems, or whether coordinates fall on land.
The operation runs in your browser. Large documents may slow the tab, so test a representative sample before processing more data.

- JSON Schema validate — Validate JSON against a schema, infer draft-07 schema from data—Ajv in browser.

Common use cases
- Preflight a GeoJSON FeatureCollection before loading it into a web map.
- Catch a missing geometry, features array, or malformed coordinate nesting in an API fixture.
- Validate a small exported sample locally before sharing it in a bug report.
Common mistakes to avoid
Reversing latitude and longitude
GeoJSON positions use longitude first, then latitude. A structurally valid pair can still point to the wrong place.
Expecting topology validation
This preflight checks JSON structure; it does not detect self-intersecting polygons or other GIS topology errors.
Pasting only the coordinates array
Paste a complete Geometry, Feature, or FeatureCollection object so the surrounding type can be checked.
FAQ
Does this validate all of RFC 7946?
No. It checks common structural requirements and coordinate shapes, not every geographic or interoperability rule.
Is the GeoJSON uploaded?
No. Validation runs in your browser.
Can I validate a FeatureCollection?
Yes. Paste the complete FeatureCollection, including its features array.
