Which PDF tool should I use?

When a PDF job sounds simple, the hard part is often choosing the first step. This guide maps common document problems to the right Toolcore PDF page.

PDF work often starts with a vague sentence: "Can you fix this PDF?" That could mean five different jobs. Maybe the pages are in the wrong order. Maybe one file needs to become three. Maybe photos from a phone need to become a single attachment.

The trick is to name the shape of the problem before you touch the file. Once you know whether the job is assembly, cleanup, conversion, or inspection, the right tool is usually obvious.

If the document is in pieces, assemble it first

When the files are already separate and you want one attachment, start with Merge PDF. Put the files in order, combine them, then download one result.

When the pages are together but in the wrong order, use Reorder PDF instead. That avoids the clumsy loop of splitting everything apart and merging it back by hand.

Phone scans are a different case. If you have PNG or JPEG images, start with Images to PDF, then come back to merge or reorder only if the final packet needs more structure.

If someone only needs part of it, split or delete

Use Split PDF when the goal is to extract pages into a new file. It is the right tool for sending one chapter, one invoice, or one signed page without sending the whole packet.

Use Delete PDF pages when the output should stay as one document but a few pages should be removed. The difference is small, but it keeps your workflow clean.

If the page looks wrong, fix the page before the file size

A sideways scan should go through Rotate PDF. A review draft that needs labels can use PDF page numbers or PDF watermark. Do these before compression so the final file is already the document you want.

If you need content out of the PDF, convert or extract

Use PDF to image when pages need to become PNG or JPEG thumbnails. Use Extract PDF text when you need copyable text for search, notes, or review.

These are not the same job. Image export preserves how a page looks. Text extraction tries to recover the words. A scanned image-only PDF may not have text to extract.

When the file behaves strangely, inspect it

If a file will not merge, split, or render the way you expect, open PDF info first. Page count, metadata, file size, and encryption state often explain what is going on.

If the document is locked, Toolcore will not guess or recover a password. Work from a file you are allowed to edit, or use Protect PDF when your job is to add restrictions to a new copy.

The short map

  • Many files to one: merge.
  • One file to selected pages: split.
  • Same file, better order: reorder.
  • Wrong orientation: rotate.
  • Need screenshots: PDF to image.
  • Need words: extract text.
  • Not sure what is inside: PDF info.

Start from the PDF tools hub when you are not sure. Pick the card that names the first real problem, finish that step, then move to the next one only if the document still needs work.

Common use cases

  • Share with someone who has a PDF job but does not know whether to merge, split, reorder, rotate, or convert first.
  • Use before uploading a file anywhere else: check whether a browser-only Toolcore page can finish the job locally.
  • Keep next to the PDF hub when assembling scanned pages, attachments, reports, or review packets.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Starting with compression when the pages are wrong

Fix the document structure first. Merge, split, reorder, rotate, or delete pages before you optimize file size.

  • Expecting password recovery

Toolcore PDF pages do not crack passwords. If a file is locked, use the protect or info pages to understand the state, then work from a file you are allowed to edit.

  • Forgetting browser memory limits

Local processing is convenient, but very large print files can still exhaust the tab. Split the job or use smaller batches when memory becomes the bottleneck.

FAQ

Are PDF files uploaded to Toolcore?

The PDF tools are designed to run in your browser unless a page says otherwise. Files stay on your device while you merge, split, convert, or inspect them.

Which PDF tool should I open first?

Open Merge PDF when combining files, Split PDF when extracting pages, Reorder PDF when page order is wrong, and PDF info when you need page count, metadata, or encryption status before editing.

Can I turn images into one PDF?

Yes. Use Images to PDF for PNG or JPEG scans, then use Merge PDF or Reorder PDF if the document needs another assembly pass.
